Keeping it Simple

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Your actions have spoken and were listening! Based on what our community has been requesting, we’re adding a ton of new features and a brand new look for Shopit! Also, in an effort to simplify the site, we’ll be doing away with some features that are not frequently used by our community. So we have removed the option to list items for ‘trade’ on Shopit. You can simply list them for sale or accept offers on them.

We thank you again for your continued feedback to help us improve Shopit. We’re working hard to ensure we give attention to all of your requests. Keep em’ coming!

Checkout by Amazon - Would you use it?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

When Shopit first launched in August 2007, there were three things we told ourselves, “Listen to our users, listen to our users, listen to our users.” We initially launched the site with PayPal being our only electronic form of payment accepted, but quickly added Google Checkout to satisfy other users requests. Our most recent addition has been the integration and partnership with Revolution Money Exchange to help give our sellers a completely free commerce experience. Now Amazon is jumping into the game with their own portable payment system and we want your opinion. Would you use this service? Make sure to let us know if you are a buyer or a seller. If we get enough of a response we will take a deeper dive into what it will take to bring this service to Shopit.
To learn more about Amazon’s new payment service click here to see what they are saying about it or read what Brad Stone of the NY Times had to say on the topic.

We try to offer our users as many options as possible without cluttering the site (hence the mention of a redesign recently). Expect to see more payment options geared towards our larger sellers with integration to larger payment gateways and processors – coming soon.

Thanks for the continued feedback and patience.

eBay Strengthens Partnership with Buy.com

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Brad Stone of the New York Times recently published an article about the deal between Buy.com and eBay. This seems to signal eBay’s move to become more of a retail listing house than a true peer-to-peer commerce platform. Stone writes, “Since eBay’s search listings favor larger sellers who can add perks like free shipping, which improve their feedback ratings, Buy.com’s presence has hurt many smaller sellers that compete in those product categories.” Because of our ability to allow users to sell on their very own blogs and social network profiles, we believe we offer a true peer-to-peer experience which allows for users to effectively communicate before, during and after the purchase of an item. This user experience will cut down on some of the problems and favoritism that eBay is facing today.

We wanted to remind our current and potential users about our one-click eBay import which allows users to easily port their catalog to Shopit. Sellers can decide whether to list those items solely on Shopit or connect them to Shopit’s network of Applications on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and AIM.

In the coming months Shopit will be furthering it’s push to be more open and portable by integrating into multiple communities and platforms. Make sure to check the blog or subscribe to our RSS to stay up to date with our latest progress.

Search, Shop, Sell, with Shopit on AIM

Monday, June 16th, 2008

mashableWith online networks and a plethora of desktop applications connecting people across the world, there’s no reason why online store can’t be better integrated into all of these platforms. That’s what Shopit thinks, at least. Given the freedom for communication that the web has allowed, the ability to build on such freedom has allowed for the growth of web-based banking, dating, and shopping. It’s expected for these forms of communication and commerce to want to go where the people are. It’s the nature of the beast, and a catalyst for the ideal meeting of supply and demand.[ Read More ]

Hayden Panettiere Sells Shirt Off Her Back

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Written on May 27th 2008 Author by Kathleen of Adotas

ADOTAS – Creepy stalkers rejoice: Hayden Panettiere is selling off items in her wardrobe for charity. The star on NBC’s Heroes, has announced a partnership with social computing site Zude and peer-to-peer social commerce marketplace Shopit to sell some of her favorite clothes in a bid to raise money and awareness for the “Save The Whales Again!” foundation.

Panettiere joins a star-studded board of spokespeople – including Pierce Brosnan, Isabel Lucas and Keely Shaye Smith – created to draw attention to the industrial killing of whales and dolphins.

Some of her wardrobe items on the block: a Dooney & Bourke handbag and an Alice + Olivia pleated black and white dress that she wore to the premiere of It’s a Mall World.

The items can be found here.

Panettiere joined Zude earlier this year to launch Fanbase – a feature that allows Zude users to build fan sites and gives them exclusive access to images, videos and music. Zude users who are members of her Fanbase can visit her home page and click on the Panettiere Closet storefront widget to embed it in their sites.

Shopit marries commerce and social networking; users can build widgets, upload items and list them for sale.
