This Who’s Who is special, because Matt Bordey is kind of like the super secret agent that quietly does his work and then slips out to his second, world-saving job after. We’re not kidding. He’s a special character! Matt’s been with Shopit for quite awhile, almost since the beginning. He’s our lead designer, a killer Wii player, our go-to guy for all the pictures we post on the blog, the Hulu controller during Thursday lunches, and the most relaxed but hardworking guy I know.
Matt was born and raised in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and his heart is still there. He moved to California in 1997 and makes regular trips back to the Philippines to visit family and friends. He even met his wife there! They were introduced by mutual friends and carried on a long distance relationship for a while before getting married and settling down together in CA. (A guy who can maintain an inter-continental relationship…sigh). To complete their family Matt and his wife recently had a baby boy, Noah, who gives Matt lots of dirty diapers and smiles. He’s adorable! 
Matt looks forward to moving his family back to the Philippines at some point, to live out his days in the sun.
Matt went to Platt College and started working at a software development company as an in house designer before joining Shopit. But design wasn’t his first career choice. He says he had lots of callings before stumbling into design… he went to flight school, made a hit record, wrote two amendments to the Constitution, boxed Ali, and finally decided that wearing jeans and a t-shirt to work everyday was worth more than giving his family free flights to and from the Philippines. (I’m not sure how much of that was made up…hard to decipher due to Matt’s secret agent demeanor).
He loves Shopit because “it’s more like a family atmosphere, it’s cool because it’s laid back”. We beg to differ on crunch days, but for the most part he’s right, we like to whistle while we work. Matt’s always the first one in the office, he likes the solitude so he tosses on some headphones and rocks out for a few hours until everyone else shows up. He’s always busy making fresh, exciting layouts for Shopit, and is in charge of some fantastic design changes that will be coming to the site soon! After beating me in Wii tennis, getting killed by me in Wii bowling, some hard work, a Pinkberry break, and making sure everyone in the office laughs a few times a day he heads straight home to the family. There he enjoys his wife’s attempts to feed him every health food under the sun (fresh pressed carrot juice anyone?), does the dishes, takes care of Noah, and gives his wife regular foot rubs. We hear you ladies, but he’s taken.
Matt would like you all to know he loves video games, cupcakes, Subway, anything comedic, drawing caricatures of the office staff, and threatening to eat my dogs every time they enter his office. I’d like you to know he’s hilarious, oblivious to stress, a sore loser, and the surest bet if you want a buddy to go get a snack with. Hope we’re giving you a view into how much fun we have here at Shopit, no wonder this family brings you so many great things!
In closing, Matt, you’re so money and you don’t even know it. But we do.
