Dramatically increase visibility for your products or your store simply by advertising it! Facebook and MySpace make it super easy for you to create a simple and inexpensive ad to help you sell more! We can assure you, if you let your products sit there on a page, they will not sell themselves! We’ll give you a step by step guide to easy advertising on these social networks.
Step #1: Choose What You Want to Advertise
Do you have a killer comic book collection that’s just not getting the attention it deserves? Is your Oklahoma Buzzy Bees vintage t-shirt not being seen by anyone actually in Oklahoma? Or maybe your friends are tired of listening to you try to sell them your old sweaters because you can’t seem to reach anyone else! Advertising is a fantastic, easy way to snag viewers you would otherwise have to dredge up yourself. And who has time for that?
So where do you want to take your future buyers to after they click on your amazing new advertisement? Do you have a great blog on WordPress or Blogger that discusses your company, economic shopping choices, or just covers topics you think need more coverage? Or choose your Shopit storefront (www.shopit.com/yourstore) that looks fantastic and has your entire catalog of items! Maybe you have a company website, or another social network where you promote your items? You can even drive traffic to a promotional page or application you may have on one of your networks. Whatever it is, decide what you want to advertise, take some great pictures of the product, make sure your storefront, webpage, blog, or application, looks inviting and interesting. And please move on to Step Two!
Step #2: Choose Where you Want your Ad to be Placed
Now that you’ve picked out where you’d like to drive all this extra traffic to, you’re ready to create an advertisement. But which ad system is going to help you get the traffic you want? We’ve done some investigating and found that both Facebook and Myspace outline simple steps to complete this process, allowing you to advertise on two of our favorite social networking sites. MySpace gives you a bit more freedom when creating your ad, you can get fancy with colors, texts, images, etc. But both get the job done! Most importantly, both sites allow you to target exactly who will see your ad with filters including age, gender, location, and more. You can even pinpoint a niche group based on their hobbies and interests! Those comic book collectors are lined up like ducks in a row for your ad to hit.

Step #3: Create Your Ad!
Make sure to include eye catching pictures, clever wording, and some basic information that converts viewers from browsing, “eh nice picture” mode, into “I have to see what that is!” mode. Start small if you want to try out both Facebook and MySpace and see which one serves you best.
Step #4: Track your Ad’s Performance! (okay, we only said 3 steps, but we think this one deserves it’s own number
)
Each program has an analytic service giving you access to information about how well your ad is performing, how many people are clicking on it, etc. Use these valuable reports to decide if your ad is working, if it needs tweaking, or if it’s a total bust and do what needs to be done. Fix it up or advertise something else, or just sit back and watch your ad draw people like moths to a flame. Great advertising equals great profit. (Just how do you think Snake Oil Salesmen made so much money??).

Now we could give even more specifics, but we think Facebook and MySpace do a great job explaining their individual programs. So check them out using the links below, and be sure to let us know how successful they are, and how your experience is!
